The Srutis says that people who do not go by way of Vidya across the Path of Devayana into Brahmaloka or by way of Karma across the path of Pitriyana to Chandraloka are reborn in lower forms. The immoral beings go to third place (Tritiyam sthaanam). According to the scriptures, those who go along neither of those ways become tiny creatures, flies, worms, etc., and live short lives. Their location is called the third place because it is neither Brahmaloka nor the Chandraloka. Third Place
The souls take different forms and go through different journeys before they are born again as human being. They move as ether, smoke, mist, clouds, rain or grains, corn, rice, herbs, trees etc. These are all ways for them to return to a mother’s womb.
According to the different forms, they move through quickly in these stages. They, however, do not identify with these forms. These are transit, halting stations for them to continue their journey. They do not lose their individuality. Once it attains a body in the mother’s womb, it continues its journey towards evolution. Life gets regulated based on the remnants of the karmic baggage, that is, the past actions. Third Place
The purpose of this law of incarnation is to realise that the Atman or the Absolute alone is bliss. The Atman alone must be the sole object of pursuit. One should get bitter with suffering and develop discernment and dispassion to attain the eternal happiness of the Absolute. A man should wake up from his slumber of ignorance and work towards freedom from the body of flesh, blood and bones.
