Have you not often come across different types of ghosts when researching or watching anything about the paranormal? Do you know that all of them are considerably different from each other? Well, in the following blog, we will be looking at the different types of ghosts and paranormal beings out there.
Ghosts
We have already spoken about ghosts in detail, and realistically speaking, this is the type of paranormal that you are likely to encounter the most. Again, ghosts are souls who were once human and, for one reason or another, haven’t passed over to the other side yet.
They are generally harmless, sometimes lost, and often just desperately want to communicate with someone to get answers, instructions, or help. Usually, people who die unexpectedly or chaotically fall into this category. Often, they don’t know or accept that they’re dead.
Plus, some ghosts I’ve encountered seem far more attached to this world than they are eager to go onto the next. In other words, it isn’t always fear that holds them back from crossing over; it’s their attachment to here. This doesn’t mean that everyone who dies unexpectedly will be a ghost; obviously, they won’t. In fact, most won’t.
Most people pass over and go into the next dimension of life within minutes or days when they die. It is relatively automatic for most of us, regardless of how we die. However, even after we die, we still have some free-will choices. Thus, those that remain as ghosts sometimes have chosen to do so.
Types of Ghosts – Residuals
Residuals are simply people, situations, and emotions that created such a volume of energy expelled that it imprinted the atmosphere with a recording of sorts. Generally, residuals happen at a particular location at either a specific time, or on a specific day, or under certain atmospheric conditions. They are not much more than a reenactment of the event. They cannot interact with you. They aren’t even aware of you. They aren’t even the souls &/or spirits of the person. They are merely a picture, a recorded movie, of a time, place, and event.
Types of Ghosts – Inhuman Spirit
This group is composed of entities that have never before been human. These are the bad boys. You don’t want anything to do with them and trust me when I say that. These are what I call your energy twin. They ride along, tap into your energy, and then they influence you to do all sorts of out-of-character things. Mostly though, they drain you. Real-life energy suckers these.
- Elementals – One form of inhuman spirits are Elementals. Known for protecting their “spots,” they have a lot more power, experience, and time spent between the layers of existence than ghosts. They usually don’t possess humans as they have their form of existence independent of ours.
- Negative nonhuman entities – These are lower-level entities that thrive in the darkness. Are they all demonic? Not really. But, I’m sure they break bread from time to time. They seem to get most of their power and entertainment from your fear, confusion, chaos, sadness, and anger, though. It seems they feed on it.
Types of Ghosts –Demons
Odours like hogs, rotten eggs, or rotting flesh are some of the first signs of Demons. They also usually physically affect you via nausea, confusion, and an absolute fear almost beyond fear. Most know that demons are pretty well known for their three-pronged scratching, a mocking of the trinity. Not that negative energy can’t manifest scratches but they cannot as easily as demons.
Types of Ghost – Addicted Entities
These are souls, or groups of souls, who have become so addicted to an emotion or a substance while here on Earth that they refuse to give it up. This group of crazies wants nothing more than to vicariously re-experience their addictions through you. Yep, you heard that right, through you.
They want nothing more than to continue to get drunk, high, mad, sexual, or sometimes even just to get even if their addiction was emotional. Now, they don’t tend to possess like some of the negative entities do. However, they tend to “hang on” and try to influence you into doing the very things that will help them get their needs met.

Types of Ghost – Poltergeists
The word poltergeist means “noisy ghosts.” These are the energies that move objects, misplace things, and do all sorts of very active and sometimes aggressive things. Many believe poltergeists are usually present around teenagers, particularly teenage girls.
Types of Ghosts – Animal Spirits
Animal spirits can show up anywhere. Sometimes they’re simply residual energy of the place you’re investigating. They likely resided therein prior times and have imprinted the atmosphere with their energy. These animal hauntings aren’t interactive or intelligent. However, sometimes, an animal soul will attach to a person or place, mainly, it seems, a person.
Types of Ghosts – Mean Ghosts
People who were mean in their life are unlikely to change in their afterlife. They are highly temperamental and grumpy. They are generally people who were attached to certain things in their past life and would not let you enjoy any of that. They stay here attaching his energy to something familiar; something he loved in life; something he felt was his. Types of Ghost – Children
Much like the animal ghosts above, children are also a double-edged sword. Sometimes they too are simply residual energy, or memory replays, versus actual ghosts or hauntings. Other times the children are like any other ghost, and they’re either looking for someone (usually a parent), or they don’t realize they’re dead.
Spirits & Spirit Guides
Rarely on a ghost hunt will you run into any spirit guides. Still, that doesn’t mean they aren’t present, so let’s address it. Spirits in my vocabulary are souls that have passed on and gone to the other side. They vibrate at a much higher rate of frequency than ghosts, demons, or even we do.
Types of Ghost – Angels
I know, many ghost hunters don’t care about angels, as that’s not what they’re going for. But I’d be remiss if I leave them out. Angels are one of the highest levels of frequency spirits can reach. It’s been my experience that angels don’t show up unless something has gone wrong.
Conclusion
Having said that, this is a quick run-through from the good and ugly side of the paranormal. If you wish to become a paranormal researcher, there are things that you need to keep in mind while dealing with each of the paranormal beings. In the upcoming blogs, we will discuss all of these in detail.
