From my experience as a paranormal expert and psychotherapist in Chennai, India, I have found several basic explanations for why spirit haunting happens and if it’s real or not. So, why do spirits remain among us? Why is it that they don’t leave for their heavenly abode? Why is it that they don’t complete their transition to the spiritual world? Well, in this excerpt we will try to understand the reason behind spirit haunting. We will also try to determine the reason behind the stay of certain entities on earth from the perspective of paranormal experts in Chennai, India.
Spirit Haunting: Why Spirits Remain Among Us?
Often during sessions with my clients, through hypnosis, I have come across various reasons for why the spirits chose to remain. The most common reasons are ignorance, confusion, fear, obsessive attachments to living persons or places, or addictions to drugs, alcohol, smoking, food, or sex. In fact, at times, some unfinished business or the determination to get revenge can also be among the probable causes.
At times, spirit haunting took place because the spirit drifted aimlessly. The reason being that they were in a state of deep confusion and ignorance that often lasted for years. In my sessions as a paranormal expert in Chennai, India, I have often questioned them in this regard. Many times the spirits possessing my clients denied any knowledge of their death. If under hypnosis I managed to get them to look at their circumstances of death, they totally refused. At times, some spirits even claimed that the person was not them.
An Example
To give you an example of such a spirit haunting, let me tell you of a girl who possessed my client. This spirit was particularly stubborn in the sense that. I managed to regress her to her time of death which she outrightly discarded. This is what she quoted – “I’m sleeping … I’m sleeping on a satin bed. Not dead, you know! I’m not! I can’t-won’t-see any more!” On seeing her dead husband and relative, she stated, “You’re not going to tell me I’m dead. I’m not dead! There’s Radha. She’s dead. She wants me to go to her house. But I can’t go with her, because she’s dead. Radha’s screaming at me, ‘You’re dead! You’re dead!’ But, no! I am not dead!” Somehow I managed to convince her through my sessions of her passing. And then she willingly departed with her husband and Radha, her best friend.
Spirit Haunting Because of Drug and Alcohol Addiction
One of the strongest reasons why spirits remain in the physical world was an addiction. Yes, the addiction to drugs, alcohol, sex or food, does not go away even in death. The spirit wants to experience it once again. In order to do so and sustain their cravings, they possess people to fulfil their compulsions. Therefore, in such cases, the overwhelming need was felt immediately after death.
In my years as a paranormal investigator in Chennai, India, I have come across many addicted spirits responsible for haunting. Spirit addicts tended to cluster around living addicts and the places they frequented. Their attempt is to experience again what was once the dominant theme of their lives. They experience it by possessing an individual. Thus, fulfilling their addiction whenever they wanted it!
Let us now see an example of a spirit haunting due to addiction. I once worked with a forty-four-year-old female who was a recovered alcoholic. She was sober for almost four years. But still, she was suffering from deep depression and anxiety. In my sessions, I was able to determine the cause – which was 18 alcoholic spirits possessing her. And the shocking part was that some of them had been with her since she was ten years old! Such people get possessed either because they themselves are addicts or were at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Spirit Haunting Because of Some Unfinished Work
The spirits might remain here because they have some job which they want to finish. It can be anything like seeing their daughter get married, or their son getting a job. They remain here as they are not able to break free from the bindings of their living being and want to be present in the critical events of their family’s lives.
When an important project is not completed, there is often a compulsion to finish it. This can continue after death, frequently tying spirits to the material world. Thwarted in their vain attempts to bring closure to their work, these entities may eventually possess others to live-and work-vicariously through them. Then the possessed feel inexplicable compulsions to do things they had no former interest in.
Sometimes Ghosts Lacks the Knowledge of Their Passing
Spirit Haunting also happens in cases when the deceased didn’t realize that they were dead. If the person had a sudden death, then the spirit of that person might not even be aware of their demise. They might be feeling as if they are in a dream, and soon they will wake up, and things will fall back in the right place. In many cases of accidents or untimely deaths, the spirits of such people mostly remain. One of the prominent reasons is that they never found closure.
In some cases of haunting, the spirit was in such a profound state of confusion when they died that they simply didn’t realize they were dead. This was particularly true of suicides. Many of them, though not all, wandered about without direction, making futile attempts to communicate with the living. This was the case with the person mentioned earlier who killed himself by jumping off a bridge. That spirit could see his body lying in the sand, but the fact of his own death did not make an impression on him. Later, he could not understand why people on the beach did not respond to him.
I have seen cases of suicides where people did experience a normal death process. Regardless, it appears that when they commit suicide, they are only postponing the working out of their lessons and retarding their spiritual progress, for they will have to find themselves in another test situation with suicide as a strong option in some future life.
Being there for their family
In this case of haunting, the spirit is aware that they have passed away and make a choice to comfort and take care of their family and loved ones even after their death. Therefore, they decide to make their home their only heavenly abode.
At other times, spirit haunting happens because they develop an obsessive attachment to the living. This compelled them to remain earthbound. In the case of early deaths, the parents stayed to “help” their children as they grew up. In addition, the deceased spouse stayed back out of loving concern for their partners. But don’t think of this as a sweet gesture. Paranormal expert in Chennai, India believe that reason does not matter. A spirit staying where it does not belong can cause serious problems.
An overprotective parent causing spirit haunting can retard the growth of their children. Because they infused them with their fears. Oftentimes, in the case of spouses, when the partners got remarried, the spirit was upset. This often resulted in deliberate havoc with serious damages.
In one case, the spirit of a young man stayed near his younger brother who had idolized him in order to “help” him. Because the entity had been a marijuana addict, the living brother began using that drug-and was soon using others as well.
Emotional Connect to Experience Life Once Again
The spirit might just not want to let go of their family as it shared a profound bond with them. In this scenario, the very idea of leaving family and passing on to the other side where they can’t see them anymore haunts them, and the spirit is yet not ready to accept that reality. Espelliany young children, when they pass on, they want to be in the comfort of their parents. Therefore, children’s spirits don’t leave.
A particularly fascinating case involved a compassionate surgeon who, dying suddenly in a car accident, returned to his own hospital and was drawn to the body of an infant still in the womb and about to be born prematurely. He commented:
This little soul was to be born so early-seven- and one-half months and only two- and one-half kgs-that she needed more. She was too weak to survive by herself. I could give her more; I could give her the strength she needed until she could go on by herself. She was tiny, so tiny! She needed me and I needed her. I still needed to experience things; with her, I could experience what I hadn’t and wanted to.
After he departed-more than twenty years, later the client said, “He was kind, but it seems that he had taken over so much that it didn’t give me a chance to grow.”
Another spirit, a mother whose daughter had died, was reluctant to leave my patient, a seventeen-year-old girl, because the girl reminded her of her own lost daughter.
If a Ghost died by someone else’s misconduct
The spirit might want to stay if there was something wrong committed against him that lead to their death. Mostly when it was a violent death or a crime. It might have a strong sense to stay back and explore what lead to its end. In my experience with an ouija board during my early years, I encountered one such spirit when I was in my late teens. The spirit told me the exact details of her death and wanted her family to get closure. She told me where to find her remains. And all of it was true!
For Vengeance
The ghost or the spirit might want to stay back to seek revenge for their death. In this case, the spirit might be knowing who caused their death and then want to seek retribution for their death. This kind of spirit is called a vengeful spirit, and they have the capability to make their foe’s life a living hell. They use fear as their most prominent tool to intimidate and hurt the person whom they think is their enemy. One should be careful around the vengeful spirit as it can cause severe mental and physical damage to a person.
But motives of possessing entities were not always benign they often were malicious-even vengeful! Several of my patients were plagued by the spirits of people who had been hostile to them while alive. Many had been besieged by vicious entities whom they never knew. Some actually were harassed by spirits who hated the other spirits already possessing the patients!
Examples of Spirit Haunting Due to Vengeance
A middle-aged female patient was possessed by several entities, among them two sisters. It became clear that the older sister was inhabiting my patient simply because she was following her sister in an obsessive effort to continue controlling her. When the younger sister departed with her loved ones, the entity finally left, much to my patient’s relief.
Just as there are individuals whose lives revolve around getting revenge, there are similarly minded spirits. If they had been murdered or felt they had been wronged, they stayed after death to deliberately hurt their “malefactors.”
As living people, their vibrations were lower than most and, like criminals and addicts, it was easy for them to remain earthbound. Some were even intent upon killing the person they possessed.
Ghost fear the verdict of GOD.
This means that the ghost might have done some wrong things in their life, and now they are scared. That God or any other entity that is more powerful than him might make him pay for the mistakes, he made. The feeling of being judged makes them scared to pass on to the other side.
Anxiety and Nervousness
Another reason could be that they were not mentally well at the time of death, so they have no other option but to stay as they under confusion and are anxious. Even when they become paranormal being. A mentally sound person at the time of his demise does not find it difficult to pass on to the other side. It just happens every day because people die every day.
Spirit Haunting In Cases of Sudden, Unexpected Deaths
Confusion was also common among people who experienced sudden, unexpected death. Some stayed where they died for hours, months-in some cases even years. One young man who died in a car accident never left the scene. He was watching medics put his body into a plastic body bag, without understanding the significance of what was happening. Then-feeling lonely-he drifted to the motel lounge where he used to perform as a musician. On going there, he got a shock since people there couldn’t see him and didn’t talk to him. In relating this to me, he joked, “I felt like Caspar the friendly ghost!”
Another man who also died in a car crash stayed at the accident site in a daze for over twenty-four hours simply staring at the spot where his car had run off the road into a river, before somehow returning to his home, where he unsuccessfully tried to communicate with his family.
A teenager who was shot in the face couldn’t bring himself to leave his disfigured body. He recalled, “I was confused. Therefore didn’t know what was happening. I was lost and didn’t know where to go. I remember that the person who shot me just drove away and left me there.”
Spirit Haunting Because They are Ashamed Of Their Past Deeds
Other entities confessed to being so ashamed of the former deeds that they didn’t want to see their spirit loved ones. Often those with a strong religious background were fearful of going to hell. These frightened spirits often desperately resisted the helpers who appeared at the time of their deaths. Paranormal experts in Chennai, India, believe that shame plays an important role.
One spirit refused–on numerous occasions-to go with his mother to the spirit world because he felt horribly remorseful about his earlier practice of devil worship. He was under the impression that she would never forgive him, since she was a staunch Catholic. The depossession was successful only when his mother finally was able to convince him that she forgave him completely.
Another possessing spirit, a young war veteran, and drug addict who had committed suicide, at first refused to leave with his mother and aunt who came for him. “They are good and I can’t go where they are, because I did bad things like drink and steal and roll people,” he confided.
A young girl who strongly believed hell was her punishment for committing suicide shied away from helping spirits. She finally left when her mother literally dragged her away.
Spirit Haunting Happens When the Deceased is Obsessed With a Particular Place
Spirits also frequently remain on the earth plane because they were under obsession with a place, usually their former home or land. In one puzzling case, a female entity was possessing my patient as a very young girl. She did this when her family was building their house on land that was the site of the spirit’s former home over eighty years earlier. This vengeful entity had initially tried to vent her anger on the girl’s father and mother. But because the parents’ auras were too strong my client, then a seven-year-old child, became her victim. From the time of the possession on, the girl’s personality drastically changed; she became extremely shy and especially afraid of public speaking.
In her regression, we found that the possessing entity was a victim of public prosecution. She was publicly hanged as a murderess before a jeering crowd. Her last memory was of “a sea of hostile faces. ” This miserable spirit had carried the emotions of that traumatic experience into the child she possessed. When she finally left, my client was immediately under the relief of her crippling, long-standing fear and gave a lecture in her church without any anxiety.
In Conclusion
The corroboration that we presently have supports the reasons that I wrote above, but then there are other ways to look at it. The analysis and the past explorations also suggest that most of the spirits that remain here were sad and confused. This means that happy souls don’t tend to hang around just because they can. We have very rarely seen a cheerful ghost or a spirit. Most of them are either sad or unhappy.
So what did we learn? We learned that there are spirits who tend to remain here. The reasons for their extended stay can be numerous. It can be a personal reason or just that they are too fearful to leave. There are investigations still taking place to help answer more regarding the afterlife and the story after death. Until then, all we can do is try from our front and use our best judgment to learn more about them without any bias or any previous beliefs.
To answer the question – are spirits real – yes, spirits are real. Spirits are around us in the form of their aura or soul. The soul is something that is never dying and immortal. Our body has matter in its composition, and it becomes matter after our death. The soul, however, is something that remains.
My advice to you
Please remember that any physical or emotional discomforts a person experiences can mostly be due to various diseases or emotional conditions he or she is going through. I have seen that majority of cases do not involve paranormal activity of any kind. Paranormal events are extremely rare occurrences. Hence your problems should be first brought to the notice of a qualified medical practitioner. I have often seen that the line between borderline personality disorders or other psychiatric disorders and “spirit possession” is thin. Hence a good paranormal investigator should advise his clients that professional medical care is the first solution or remedy for any physical or emotional discomfort.
Remember, you need to be a sceptic first to develop into a paranormal investigator. You need to rule out every single scientific possibility that is known to mankind to identify anything that is paranormal. Hence travel through the path of modern science, explore and unravel all facts using data and what cannot be explained through science is what we need to explore more through the paranormal arena. Most of your clients may feel desperate due to whatever they are going through. It’s your duty to act responsibly. Guide them through the path of modern science. Refrain from being a doctor or healer. There are qualified medical practitioners out there who can do their job well. Avoid any forms of advice on religious or cultural rituals or for that matter any ritualistic practices.
