What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “Paranormal or Paranormal Activity?” I am pretty sure you must have used this term hundreds if not thousands of times, but if I asked you to define the term like a paranormal expert, how will you do it? Ghost? Spirits? Something from the beyond?
Have you ever seen a ghost or experienced something that you couldn’t explain? Even the most hard-boiled skeptic can feel a chill in the graveyard in the middle of the night or in a marooned house. So, what do you think science says about ghosts?
People often say that ghosts are the souls of the dead that haven’t fully crossed over to the afterlife. Although no one has yet fully presented concrete evidence of a spirit under controlled conditions, there have been attempts to quantify the mystery.
Did you know that paranormal is a whole different field requiring the best technology to unearth probably the most profound mystery for the living kind? Didn’t you? Saw it in some documentaries, probably? Before we proceed to understand what a ghost is, let us first understand what the term paranormal means.
What is Paranormal Activity?
“Paranormal” is a vast field and generally encompasses the mysterious phenomenons around the world. If we go for literal meaning, it boils down to things that are “above the normal.” Anything that hasn’t been explained by science, but we still feel or experience it, is nearly paranormal.
It’s not ghosts that come under the ambit of paranormal, but it also includes a broad spectrum of categories comprising UFOs, Parapsychology (the study of the psychological phenomenon), and Cryptozoology (the study of unknown animals). All these categories combined come under Metaphysics’ study – “the study of the existence and consciousness of the unknown.”
Now that you have fundamental insight into the gist of it, one question that must’ve cropped up in your mind must be – “What is the aim of this? Why do we study the paranormal?”
Human beings are curious souls – from a child to an adult, no matter their age. Things from the beyond, ghosts, and spirits have always been an area of contention and deep interest for us. The tales from our grandparents or personal experience has added to that interest.
So when we try to study everything and understand the “Why” behind it, why not the paranormal! “The study of paranormal and anomalous phenomena is a must to gain more insight into the human condition, both now and when we die. The study of metaphysics will enhance your knowledge of the paranormal from what you’ve seen or heard on TV.”
